Bio-Methane Regions
Establishing a better biogas industry in Europe
Background and goal
Bio-Methane Regions is a European three year joint research project supported by Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE). The project originates from the increasing potential of anaerobic digestion of biogas and biogas upgrading in order to generate biomethane for gas grid injection and fuel. The project was established to promote the biogas industry. In doing so, the partners implemented new biogas plants, aim at overcoming existing local barriers complicating the implementation of biogas concepts in providing extensive technical and economical information, train qualified local partners to spread knowledge and create confidence regarding the technology in advertising best practice examples.
Project consortium
The consortium is guided by two university institutes (providing knowhow in the field of anaerobic digestion and biogas upgrading), regional organizations focusing on energy-related and environmental issues and local energy agencies. Overall, the project consists of 15 partners from 11 European countries.
